The Engineering Training Centre (hereinafter referred to as the Center) is a practical teaching institution directly under Guizhou Institute of Technology (GIT). The construction and management of the Center are highly valued as GIT strives to become one of the first-class universities in Western China. Therefore the Center has been listed by the school as one of the first construction projects of National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China. In 2013, it was classified as Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. Guided by the training objectives of “strong responsibility, fine technology, good management, highlighting practice and innovation”, the Center consistently adheres to the process-oriented teaching philosophy of “understanding engineering, experiencing manufacturing, project-driven and exploring innovation”. Based on the outcomes-based education (OBE), the Center constructs an open, multi-level and module-based engineering training system with GIT characteristics, training students with engineering consciousness, practical ability and innovation spirit.
The Center covers a construction area of 6190 square meters. Currently the Center is equipped with CNC Lathe Operation Training Workshop, Ordinary Lathe Operation Training Workshop, Casting Training Workshop, Welding Training Workshop, Comprehensive Training workshop, Fitter Training Workshop, Assembly Training workshop, Electronic Process Training Workshop, Electrician Skill Training Workshop as well as 3D Printing Training Room, Manufacturing Simulation Training Room and Intelligent Equipment Innovation Training Room. There are more than 500 sets of various types of teaching equipment, with the value of 10 million yuan.
The Center has 17 teachers, 35% of whom are double-qualified teachers. The Center offers 13 basic engineering training programs for the undergraduate students and is responsible for organizing students to participate in various regional and provincial competitions.
In conformity with GIT’s principle of “high starting point, open style”, the Center takes the road of connotation development, absorbing talents from all over the country to serve Guizhou and Western China. Backed by National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China, the Center strives to build itself into an engineering practical teaching demonstration center, an engineering innovation practice center, an engineering continuing education center and a technical service center that integrates modern manufacturing technology, modern information technology, modern control technology and modern management technology.
